The Accidental Tradition
Boog loves nothing better than a celebration. He would decorate for a Saturday if we let him. Tech Support grew up where the tradition was that on Christmas Eve his family drove around looking at Christmas lights. We are nothing if not boring people, and it was boring. Until Boog came along. A couple of years ago he would see Christmas lights up and get so excited.
It’s an infectious kind of excitement that he has.
And now, we drive around looking at Christmas lights every night between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Even I look forward to it. Me, who is not at all excitable about much. I would like to be. I really want to be. I’m not. If I go off keel, it’s always down.
What fun would hunting lights be without Christmas music?
Not much.
For the last two years our soundtrack has been Relient K ‘Let it Snow Baby, Let it Reindeer’. The littles sing all the songs. You’ll know “Eat at Chelsea’s day oh” of course I don’t think those are the real lyrics, but that’s what we sing. I forget what my true love gave to me on the fifth day of Christmas, but it wasn’t golden rings.
This is the very reason I am glad we went out of our gene pool for our final three kids. Love my kids, but they are just as boring as their parents. Even keeled.
The littles, not so much. Either up, way up. Or down, way down. I don’t enjoy the down so much. But they have changed who we are, for the better.
So, if you are missing me, check out one of the neighvorhoods in the City by the Sea, we are looking at lights, singing wrong lyrics and trying to outdo each other with a “that’s what she said.”
And in the words of Randy from Earl, (which was great until they decided to go off the list).

LOL! I have to admit, it is our family tradition to drive around on Christmas eve and look at the lights so it must, somehow, run in the family! We always end up coming home and making ice cream sundaes and banana splits. Nothing like sugaring the kids up before putting them to bed on Christmas eve! LOL

I just have to chime in with “that’s what she said.”
